Divide and conquer....

"For much of the 20th Century, Washington D.C.’s U Street, or "Black Broadway," was a vibrant intellectual, artistic, and commercial hub for African Americans — and one of the few places black people were able to live.
The neighborhood has since seen changes with gentrification and immigration. In recent years, Ethiopian immigrants have been chasing the American dream alongside their African-American neighbors. Washington D.C is home to the biggest Ethiopian community outside Ethiopia. But as the two communities brush up against each other, there have been controversies - such as a thwarted attempt to rename a section of the neighborhood "Little Ethiopia."

* This is dedicated to all those West Indians+Africans that WE have came across who believe that they are not identified in America as Black....just take a listen and get real. S/o to the Nigerian at the W who thought he wasn't black...hope he figures it out smh*

Roots Rock Reggae

If you haven’t seen or heard of the Steel Pulse Reggae Band, then today is your lucky day. This band has been around for many, many years and I had the pleasure of seeing them live (while working) ;) last night. The place was jammed packed with a diverse mix of enthusiastic fans, all singing and dancing to the lyrics “here comes Rasta man!” I must say, it was an incredible sight to see- including my mum vibing out in the crowd. ..... Must see, live sets are rocking!

Bless up,

Familiar Sounds....

*Amadou & Mariam the Malian duo Ce n'est pas bon was sampled on "Um Ricka" by Wale Feat. K'naan. They have awesome instrumentals get familiar.*

Radiohead Friday!

*It is just one of those Friday's when you have to kick back and relax...Enjoy your weekend beautiful people life is short so live it lively!*

Cipherstock Thursday!

*Supported "The Whole Dammed Delegation" last night at Cipher Stock @ Bloombars. Nice little hole in the wall venue off of Sherman Street NW the management was a little off and gave us a weird feeling but good event none the less UNTIL.......The freaking Cops tried to hush up live music...smh typical pig move!!! We got to be apart of the performance with our tambourine and djembe drum provided by the performers!!! *

*Yes!!!! Linsanity has come full circle and captivated JLS. We are most definitely fans and this post should have came after the Knicks beat the Lakers but we waited a bit....To no surprise more greatness came from this NBA underdog. Mr. Lin has an amazing story from playing for the uppity Ivy's to going undrafted to balling with the D-leaguers to overnight sensation. Such an awesome story in a nutshell. Of course we had to be hipped to this prodigy by our greatest informant Huang who put us up on game. The boy is a monster!!!!! He just keeps busting ass.... Love the picture of him throwing buckets on Ron Artest.... LAKERS SUCK!!!!! (no offense KK).. *

Singles Awareness Day!

*On this 14th day of February you should not just show love and appreciation to those who you cherish .... You should show it 365 days of the year!!!! Say I love you everyday not just one day. Valentine's Day is a gimmick for companies to get an influx of money on a random day so the rich can get richer and poor just continue to live beyond their means and waste money for the idea of "love" ....Please we are hip to the game! lol If no one told they loved you today or all week we do!!!! Enjoy your day!*

Made in The 80's!

* Sad but somewhat true....I was trying to put this mockery to shame ..then realized I could'nt even be mad when they had old girl in foams and they were shouting out Landova because they ain't lyin. S/O to KK this video is dedicated to you!Gogo sterotype! lol*

Phony Ppl + Theo London

*Jls plus the wonderful KK attended the Theophilus London/Phony Ppl concert on 2/6/12. Although Jah actually worked this concert she was able to see more behind the scences Tom Foolery with the guys. It was a rather enjoyable concert we all were more excited to see Phony PPl and they definitely impressed us. Collectively they remind us of a more controlled R&B style East Coast Odd Futture if that makes any sense. Enjoy the video! We love the variety of their sound!
