Soomaaliyeey toosoo (Praying for a brighter future)

*So much runs through my head when I see videos and articles about the situations in Somalia. If it's not piracy it is the Al Shabaab teaming up with Al-Qaeda, now the drought has worsened and they are facing famine. Seriously can this country catch a break for once?!?! I think back and try not to blame it on anything except the colonization oof Somalia , but more recently I gave it a rest. I will do something! and I am thinking of something....I have to I AM GOING TO! I have to help...I cannot watch a video and not feel compelled to help. So, with that said why does America always start wars with countries that arent bringing any heat...if we really wanted drama and a REAL war (I do not condone war) I know Al-Shabaab, the pirates and rebels would be happy to give us one....but awww we pulled out before and came on home nobody wants a repeat of black hawk down I guess....Im just saying America is always quick to play Superman and want to help or tell someone else how to rule their country and use armed forces ...why not now?*

"Playas Get Chose": NYC Edition Take II

So we arrived in the big city of dreams on a muggy, hot and sticky Friday night, decided to walk around for a bit and ran into the coolest New Yorkers, repping Harlem world all day. They were nice enough to show us a hip bar around 42nd street. “Frozen drinks on deck”! lls Didn’t plan on staying out very late, but we did, we got some shut eye around 3am. Excited about our eventful Saturday, this started with eyebrow threading in the uptown area; we enjoyed our fav food, and headed to Soho for some window shopping and long walks. After a pit stop at Jamba juice, we hopped on that good ole A train to Crown Heights BK, where Theophilus London and Phony Ppl put on an amazing free show! We arrived a little early, so in the meantime in between time, we hopped back on the train to the Brooklyn Museum. We got there to find out that it was CLOSED #fail. No worries. We had an awesome time at the TL show in BK! Met some cool ass people, ate some bomb veggie tacos, sipped sangria, and ran into a familiar face, David from the NO. After the show,we rushed off to Bushwick where our good friend and Houston rapper Fat Tony performed for the Bushwick block party. Upon entering we ran into one of the members of from Ninjasonik. We conversed a bit and snapped a photo. greattimes! We made it to the block party right before they wrapped up; still had a chance to network a bit, and did we!

*Shout outs to the Sachdevs for their hospitality, yet again!

*JLS will make our return to NYC for AfroPunk Festival August 26-28. HOLLER at us.!

Rest in PEACE AMY AMY AMY

true fan of this lady music. Her "Back to Black" album was on repeat during my 08 Jamaica summer vacation. REAL TALK! I couldn't put down my ipod. It's truly sad to see such young talent fall by the wayside. I was ready for that come back album. Her music will indeed live on for ages to come.

Glut Food Co-Op: Still Cheap,Still Funky!

Soo my darling sis did a cool write up on the infamous Glut Zone.

Glut is a all natural, organic, Vegetarian co-op that provides products for reasonable prices!.It is indeed our favorite store in the world; being as though our founder (mum) runs the joint! And our sis Miss Nelajah is the cheese cutter! yummm

If your'e ever in the Mt Rainier area, you should indeed check it out! Its smells of spices, fresh produce and you'll always run into a familiar face every now and then.

*Did I mention that if you call in on Sunday mornings, you can sign up for a volunteer shift for the week, work 6-8 hours and get food credit! that's right you can buy anything in the store for credit you earn. Nice right!?

Virginia is for LVRS

Jah traveled to VA beach with fam during the weekend. It was a nice mini vaca. We walked a mile or longer for food and slept on the beach all weekend long, pure bliss! We had an amazing view of the beach, thanks to our perfect hotel spot; sunrise and sunset were eye-catching moments. All in all, my road trip was fresh. Hanging and catching up with family is always a blast.

*I was Zuri's muse for the weekend, hence my face in most of the photos, she's doing a amazing job!

Hip Hop Theater Festival Wrap Up weekend

So the Festival ended with Marc Bamuthi Joseph's play (if I can call it that) "Words Become Flesh". There are no words to describe how amazing this show was BOTH NIGHTS (Friday & Saturday)! The content is incredibly heavy... I am glad I saw it twice. S/O to the cast they are truly some talented individuals. Glad I was a witness! Take a look!

*Special shout outs to all the artist who came out as well: The talented Mr. John Johnson , East African fam Ambessa Berhe and, The whole Albany crew Too Deep Entertainment! Mucho Love!

Life is short we say...

October 11, 2005 "You only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough.....And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years."

"Playas Get Chose" Chicago Edition

*JLS Trip to Chicago was a very memorable one...but soo much went undocumented...starting with....
-Friday- Our flight had a 6hr delay. We finally arrived in Chicago at about 4am Saturday morning only to find out our bags did not make it...#fail.Our beloved friend from Texas picked us up from Midway and we arrived at our hotel at about 5:30am only to make checkout at 11.(S/O To Addi our Nigerian Homie from freedom for holding us down with the VIP Southwest Treatment)

-Saturday- After checking out of the Essex Inn (Courtesy of Nisha) we headed over to the second born Huang.... YES MIKE HUANG'S SISTER MICHELLE!!! Her pad was super nice and conveniently located in the heart of the city. We walked the magnificent mile and grabbed some chipotle (our fav). Once the evening rolled around we got an invitation to a cookout on the south side of the Chi....rather interesting but enjoyable non the less (thanks Joi). As night fell my fellow PV Alum Mr. Davis helped us bar hop after we attended Ms. Dorsey's wedding cocktail party at the Palmer House.

-Sunday- started off with a delightful lunch with James fellow Howardite (I think that's what you say) Paige who we had the pleasure of meeting. Then finally our last pad crash with Umesh. Sunday was the day of the wedding which was our initial reason for traveling. It was lovely...and the bride Carla Dorsey was absolutely stunning!

-Monday- Jah nursed Saudi back to health while in a cab with tubed air on the way to the airport....that's JLS travels for you.

*Special thanks to all those who contributed to helping us find housing in the Chi you are appreciated!!! And to those of you who actually provided housing for us we are truly grateful!!!!*
